Whether it’s a compact, minitruck, Full-size or classic, we all have something in common, we love our vehicles. Some may hate another's vehicle, but it is the haters and jealousy that ruins any sport. I own a truck but still love to see the crazy ideas and mods the compact crowd is getting into. Hot Import Daze was held at Irvine Meadows in California. The weather was perfect. Around 80 degrees with a slight breeze, perfect for the jungle theme at the show. We drove up to Irvine the night before to drop off the cars. On the way up the Conejo grade on the 101 Freeway we were flying by traffic following my teammate who was going to be competing in the show. We were swerving in and out of traffic following closely when a UPS truck blocked our way. We thought our teammate was going to turn in to the lane next to him, but an SUV speed up and closed the gap. He slammed on the brakes causing us to lock the wheels up and bring a cloud of smoke. We tried downshifting and at the last moment pulled the e-brake in an attempt to avoid rear-ending my buddy. We tapped his rear bumper, but when my driver pulled the e-brake it caused us to do a 180 on the freeway, ending up facing traffic. Luckily, there was no one behind us, so we quickly turned around and exited the freeway. We inspected the damage, and found a hole in the rear bumper and a crack. We were only 15 minutes away from home, but decided to keep on going and still show the car. After sitting in traffic we finally arrived to our destination and dropped off the car.

The next morning we woke up early and started detailing the car. Luckily we had brought some stuffed monkeys for the jungle theme and placed them to hide the damage. There were a lot of nice cars out and even a few SUV's and trucks from Swift and DUB magazine who were playing with their bags. There were quite a few compacts with bags, air cylinders or hydros. A lot of headlight and taillight conversions and shaved body work. APC, Garage Graphics, and Island Motorsports were just a few of the vendors in attendance. All in all, we saw a lot of badass rides and girls to go with them. Check out upcoming issues for coverage I took of Showoff Classic in Anaheim. I have a few movies of the "shake your ass" contest, which became pretty wild.
