I'm so glad that Russell is going back to work this month. Now we can start doing some of the stuff that we've been talking about for the past year. The Nissan has sat unchanged for the past year (with the exception of new wheels and a shaved antenna) and it's rather annoying. It's so annoying that we've decided we WILL NOT show this truck again until it's finished (well, mostly finished because we'll never be DONE with anything..) We will, however, still be going to shows and hanging out with our friends and buddies. There are several reasons that led us to the decision to withdraw the truck from competition......1. We feel that we have to represent in the best possible way in order to be in line with our club requirements, etc. 2. We hate seeing the same trucks at the same shows every year that are unchanged. 3. I'm sick of looking at this truck how it sits right now. It doesn't really matter what club you are in. Any club can earn respect by having clean rides, outstanding members, and the ability to remain cutting edge no matter which way the trends turn. It also helps tremendously if you can remain an individual as far as modifications and paint schemes go. I, personally, feel that you have to give respect to get respect. This includes being nice to people in other clubs and to people in no club at all. Most of the people I know go to shows because it's fun and to see the latest rides and mods. I can't remember anyone ever saying to me, "Wow, I got to see so and so’s truck again, and it hasn't changed a bit! How cool!" I'm all for seeing the same trucks year after year because it means our sport is stable and growing. However, I want to have to think to figure out it it's the same truck I saw last year with even more mods and fresh paint this year.

I'm tired of looking at our truck as it sits. I'm used to being the first or one of the first in our town to do 'whatever' to our truck. (What's really sad is that we haven't done anything new or cutting edge to our truck in at least 13 months and we still have more mods than anyone in town. And yes, we live in Hicksville, USA!!!!!) Our primer has been on the truck so long that it's starting to get shiny. It's not that we are any less 'into the scene' or that we are lazy. We just haven't been able to do anything to it. (If you read my column on a regular basis, you already know why so I won't go into it again, just like I promised!) Basically, we have a two-page list of modifications that we want to have done before we show it again. We made it our New Year's resolution to get at least half of it done before the year is out, all of it if we can. Maybe we will be able to keep this one. Start your year off right! Make your own "to-do" list while it's cold so you can get it done before the big shows this summer!!!! Peace....
