Battle of the Imports
Battle of the Imports
If you haven't been to a Battle of the Imports event yet, you are missing out on some real hot racing action and two days of sport compact fun. SmoothGraphics.com and PhilsInc.com sponsored this weekend event.
Saturday the 14th brought a day of testing and tuning for all the racers and actually yielded some very impressive times. Venom performance was out in full force with their Tundra, Supra, and Civic race cars, as well as other local and national race teams. The Venom Tundra piloted by Grant Downing ran a record 6.958 @ 195.93mph. In the Venom Pro Modified class, Brent Rau took the win in the Osofast Racing/ACT clutches 99 Mitsubishi eclipse. If you think the battle of the imports is all about Civics, Integras, and Eclipses… think again. There were quite a few vehicles racing that I was really surprised to see there. Surprisingly, there were quite a few Volkswagens and Subaru's in the racing field as well as Neon's and Cavaliers.
The 10-second 1981 VW Sciracco driven by Kevin Black definitely got the crowd's attention. Even if you don't want to compete, but you'd like to see where you stand, you can go and get your car inspected and take a few "fun-runs" in between heats. If you'd like to compete, the bracket-racing event was yielding some very close races.
There was quite a turnout for the car show section of the event which was held on Sunday. Team GMCI, Toys Development, Ronin, and Generation Speedline kept the judges busy with their respective teams and clubs participation. Trophies were handed out in 24 different categories including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for the Civic 2 door category. Best of show went to Bob Mull of Team GMCI for his beautifully built 99 Cavalier, and Best Team Participation went to Toys Development for their armada of customized Toyota vehicles.
