How ya'll is? Can you believe that summer is over? I can't, but here in the Lone Star State, we went from nighttime lows in the lower 80's to the low 40's in less than 48 hours! Mother Nature don't play! I am leaving this show season with a boat-load of ideas, very little money, and a newfound respect for any and everyone that puts on shows and has to field the good and bad comments that we, the show-goers, might make. I also realized something else this summer...cartoons suck now! There are a couple of decent ones like Arthur and Doug. I had this startling revelation on my b-day in September. It was a Saturday, and I woke up early to watch the cartoons with my girlfriend's son. As he flipped through the channels like the professional channel surfer that I am grooming him to be, I started wondering where all the cartoons were, so I asked him. I asked about Transformers and G.I. Joe, and he looked at me like I had grasshoppers flying out of my nose! He said he'd never heard of them! He also informed that Pokemon, not Hot Wheels, are what all the "cool" kids are collecting now. I started laughing at what he told me, but then it also got me to thinking, what will be the "IN" thing when my good friend and clubmate Shey's newborn daughter is 7 years old? Who knows, maybe by then all the kids will be collecting hubcaps and taillights, that's what I collected (you can always spot the car guys kids, huh?) thinking all the while that maybe I might end up with enough parts to build a truck! Well, back to my story. As we sat watching what's left of a Saturday morning institution, he was telling me about Pokemon and asking what cartoons I like to watch. Boy, what a trip down memory lane! About this time, his mom walks in the room, and she and I start reminiscing about the "cool" cartoons, like Qbert and Rubik’s-Cube, Strawberry Shortcake, the Smurfs and several others. The whole time he looked at us like we lost our minds.

Later that weekend, I found an old tape, and I mean ooolllddd, that had episodes of the Transformers, G.I. Joe and Star Blazers. It even had two of the best cartoons ever made....It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and A Garfield Halloween! Talk about your timeless classics! It amazes me at how funny I find those cartoons today; it was almost like I was seeing them again for the first time! Won't be much longer till it's time to dig out A Christmas Story!! After much deliberation, and many hours of laughing till I made myself a little woozy, I came to the conclusion that all men are just big kids. I know that all the ladies will agree with me on that one..hehe So ladies, please don't get mad when we get that glazed look and a case of the "I wants", you know the look...you see it on us at every show, at the nudie bars and when we know that the release of the latest edition of the custom vehicle owner/builders bible StreetSourceMag.com is nigh. It's what we do; it's who we are! I know my girlfriend, and a lot of other girlfriends and wives for that matter, are tired of us badgering them about lowering their cars, or looking at EVERY car on the road and asking them how those taillights would look on my truck, and for me especially, acting my age(7) in public...hehe Well folks, until next time...keep your wheels spinnin and the beavers grinnin!
