Bash At the Beach
Bash At the Beach
When I heard that Jay and his crew at Show-N-Shine promotions were throwing their annual Bash at the Beach in north Myrtle Beach, I quickly marked it down on my show calendar. I attended this show last year and really enjoyed myself, so I knew this year wouldn't be any different. My wife and me loaded up the car and headed out early Friday morning for the 5-hour trip. Once at the beach, we checked into the hotel and made a quick trip to the show field, which was the whole side parking lot of the Colonial Mall, which is located just north of main Myrtle Beach. After a quick walk through the mall, we decided to catch a quick movie. We'd been putting off seeing Goldmember and took this chance to sit down and check it out. After the movie we went back to the hotel to change and get ready for dinner. I made a phone call to Robbie in Pebble Pushers, who was also at the show, to see where the whole Pp crew was going for dinner. Since I had already made plans to go to my favorite restaurant while I was the beach, Dicks Last Resort, when he said that's where they wanted to eat, I knew I had to meet up with them. Once we were all at the restaurant, all 25 of us, it was time to let the fun begin! About 10 minutes after we were seated, the ice began flying, which led to a "bucket of ice" fight. Once you get a little beer into Garbage, you never know how things will turn out! LOL
Saturday morning began early for me since I still hadn't washed the car yet. Even at 7 in the morning, the car wash was a car show itself. Now that I had the car ready to show, I decided to go ahead and make a run through the drive through judging to avoid the line that built up towards the end of the day. The judges were really thorough and made it a point to see if I had any questions and to let me know what class I was in. Now that the hard part of the day was over, it was time to start the rounds with the camera. When I saw the sign at the mall entrance flash the temperature (99), I knew it was going to be a hot day, but that didn't stop the show from being a great one. But hey, at least it wasn't raining! LOL
Once the sun started to settle a little bit, it was off to find a place to shoot a few features. I chose the back corner of the near by Wal-Mart parking lot and I could have swore there was someone at the show saying "go to Wal-Mart, they are shooting features" because nearly 50 people showed up to check it out. I finished up about the time we lost the sunlight, and headed back to the hotel to get ready to grab some diner. On Sunday morning, we loaded up the car and went back to the show to check out the high/low contest before heading home. The lowest award went to Robbie Welcher from Pebble Pushers with his "door draggin" S-10, who almost didn't make it to the contest because he was pulled over for not having any taillights. He had somehow managed to vibrate his LED taillights loose and since his roll pan sits flat on the ground, he drug them in half, yet was still out driving his truck. LOL
Once the awards were done, we hopped in the car and headed back home. After attending this show for two years, it's good to see the show keep getting bigger and better, with over 300 entries this year, I can't wait to see how many show up next year. If your anywhere near the Myrtle Beach area, make sure you don't miss this show because where else can you go to a show and yet have a million places to go and things do after the show closes.
