LakeFront Tour '02
Well I can't believe this I am sitting here once again writing about this show. It seems like yesterday I was sitting here in my offices talking about the great things that go on at this show. Needless to say it has been another great year for Roger Miller and the guys of Midnight Fantasies.
To start my long weekend off I picked up my buddy Speedbump from the airport Thursday night, he also has heard about how fun this show was so he made sure to fly down from Amarillo to take part in the activities. After giving him the tour of Dallas and some of the places I hang out we headed over to clicks billiards to meet up with a Ronny, Big Dave and a few others to get our weekend started. Now kids if you have a long drive on Friday do not go out drinking till 3 in the morning.
8 am Friday morning came quick, and the headache was there to prove it. Once everyone arrived at Ronny's, Speedbump and I jump into Gaybar's car and we were all on our way. With a few stops along the way and a little bit of traffic we made the 6 hour drive to Lake Charles right at 10 hours if I remember right. As soon as we arrived in Lake Charles we head to the show grounds to get our armbands and take advantage of "hospitality night" that guys of Midnight Fantasies put on for all the show's participants, which includes hot dogs and drinks and a place to socialize before heading to the casinos.
For those that know me I have what you would call a gambling problem. Luckily this year I had Speedbump there to help control my spending and convince the pit boss's into a free room and some buffets. After staring at a roulette wheel till 4 am Saturday morning we decided to take advantage of the free room knowing we had a long day in front of us. Waking up to the tune of a loud ringing noise we grabbed our things and headed to our other hotel that Roger provided us to get our cameras and change clothes.
Arriving at the show was like a déjà vu from last year except more people. All I can say for the turn out is WOW, there where all kids of rides from lowriders to classic and of course our favorites, imports and trucks! As for the vendors there was enough there to get everyone's Christmas list a good start from Drop Em clothing to Ekstensive metal works. While walking around the show I noticed a lot of new rides this year including Pasqually's rebuilt S-10, Bill Carrollton's wife's 03 Cadillac layed out on bags and 20s and Andrew from Severed Ties Texas brought out his up and coming Taco. With 4 o'clock coming on quick it was time for the bikini contest that is suitable for the whole family and like always Explicit Concepts had their front row seats right next to Severed Ties.
As the show came to a close for Saturday it was time for us to head back to the hotel shower up and get some grub thanks to our complimentary buffets, thanks Harrahs. After eating and gambling we headed back to the other hotel were the party had already began, it seemed like everyone that came to the show was at our hotel, even the weirdo's from sweet-n-low running around in a thong, thanks guys I still have nightmares about that. With the time flying buy the Johnny law was getting a lil fed up with our pranks with firecrackers it was time to try and disperse the crowd. OK attention all police officers there is no need to scream, curse and threaten a drunken crowd all you have to do is be nice and ask politely and most the time we will settle down. In this case we had a dick head cop trying to be Wyatt Earp or something so I took it upon myself to get his attention and show the StreetSource fans my impression of super man, by diving of the roof of the hotel office into the pool. My plan worked pretty well until I got caught and then received a "stern talking to". After all the fun and games and hanging with the porno chicks (don't ask you had to be there) Daniel B (gaybar), Speedbump and I raided the closest waffle house before heading back to the hotels for the night. As for Sunday my ride was ready to jet and I captured all the pics I need on Saturday so we said our goodbyes and headed home.
I know what yall are thinking is this story ever going to end, and I answer, "yes" as soon as I give out my props.
Lakefront tour in Lake Charles is always a show I look forward to; I hope I am allowed back there next year. Roger and the guys of midnight fantasies always to a great job running this show and they always have the best rides and the best vendors, for all those that have never been to this show, your missing out, next year put it on your calendars, skip one of those "big" shows and support the lil guy for once. Once again thanks to all those that help me have a great time and added to my memories. See ya next year
