Hot Import Daze
Hot Import Daze
This was my first show back to the scene in about six months, since closing down my own web site. Don't worry; I'll be back with something new for the scene. But meanwhile it was good to be back in the mix of the shows by hitting up Hot Import Daze. I couldn't pass it up since it was right here in my hometown and a buddy hooked it up with some tickets for the right price, Free.99. For those of you that don't know me, I will usually sugar coat things and look for the positives. But with this show, that was a tough thing to do. It was one of the smallest and uneventful shows I have ever been to. And in the last year I have covered over 30 shows so I know the scene well! For this show being promoted all over the top radio stations in town for an entire month the outcome was very disappointing. Now I will try to sugar coat things! This was Hot Import Daze first show ever, with a second show hitting Pittsburgh August 23rd the following weekend. I will be interested in hearing how the show in Pittsburgh does, although many of the web sites kiss the A** of these shows and won't tell it like it is. There were also two other shows that I know of happening up in LA the following day that might have hurt the turn out of this show. That is the way we do it here on the West Coast. I guess we are a little spoiled on this coast with the abundance of shows?
I didn't plan on covering this show for SSM and just went for the fun of it; to re-establish contacts with people. But when I got home I realized Street Source wasn't going to have coverage so I decided to hook them up and I hope to cover some more shows for them in the future. So now to the show, it was small! My guess 100 to 150 show cars as well as a street bike demonstration from the guys of SoCalRiders.com who brought out probably 50 show bikes and some fine young ladies. They had the beautiful model Tiffany Lang and another gorgeous model that was posing with her. Sorry, I couldn't pull them away from the crowd to talk to them and learn the other girl's name. There was also a go-cart demo, a rock-climbing wall, and to cool you off they had a dunk tank for the ladies and a water balloon game. I found a way to kill enough time in the hot so Cal sun by continuing to go up and talk to porn star Adriana Sage. Anytime I got board I just went back there. There weren't many big name industry models their signing photos and posters with the exception of Flo Jallin, Dazza, and Courtney Day.
The bikini contest ended up starting early, which was a mixed blessing. I was happy that it was starting early so I could check it out and go home but it caught me by surprise and I wasn't able to get up front to get the killer coverage. In the Bikini Fashion Contest, they add the "Fashion" part to get industry models in it, What ever! A few more industry models appeared such as Nikki Zeno and Tina Feng. Thank God for a girl name Loca who has a huge cross tattooed on her back and another girl who defied the rules and "let them breathe" if you know what I mean. A little advice to all you show creators, the crowd wants skin! Do the fashion show with the industry models to warm up the crowd and then do a booty contest with skin to WIN. Forget the BS that it is a family show. All you are going to get is good-looking girls being booed at for not taking it off and the industry models will stop doing the contest. Get the car show hoochies that want to flaunt it up on stage to do their thing. Anyway, that is my little spotlight of advice. I hope to cover some more shows that are coming up for SSM and attend a better show.
Thanks and enjoy the coverage!
