Summer Streets
Summer Streets
When you normally think of Shreveport, Louisiana one of the last things that usually will jump out at yeah is the fact that it host one of the best one-day shows in existence. Shreveport is a town that has totally revitalized its down town area and turned a once crime ridden area into a show place. Market Street was once one of the worst areas in urban Shreveport but after the city dumped millions of dollars into the Festival Plaza area it has become the perfect location to host a show.
I arrived Friday evening at my hotel within walking distance of the show. It wasn't long till a call to John Lomax the shows promoter that I was in the beater and off to the pre-registration location to hang out and catch up one what the game plan was for the show. Since this was my first year of attending Summer Streets I had no clue as to what this awesome show had in store. After meeting up with Mike Outlaw of USACi and MTV fame we decided to head to the location and check out the rental golf carts to see what they were capable of handling. After making a hasty decision to drive the cart back to the hotel we realized that when Shreveport designed the Market St Bridge they never intended for a golf cart to be passing down the sidewalk area. Only to the astonishment of on coming vehicles were we able to JUMP the cart off a 2ft high curb and into oncoming traffic. Something tells me a car is bigger then a golf cart. After almost killing Outlaw and myself John finally arrived at our hotel. Just as we was arriving the entire crew from Aftermath Customs some of Louisiana's finest swamp rides decided to make a late arrival. To help guide my boys from the Bayou into the hotel parking lot I decided to BARE a lil light to guide them in with in the form of a full moon on the hood of TJ's RSX. There is just something about a full moon. With the lack of enjoyment on TJ's face from seeing my white backside TJ and the crew made there way to the hotel to get checked in. Feeling out of breath from all the excitement and understanding that doing what normally takes two days and only having one full day to do it in I decided I had better get some shut eye.
Saturday morning came way to early as Mike Outlaw decided to ring my room to make sure I was awake, which I totally wasn't. After getting dressed it was off to breakfast. Mike and me walked into a normally upscale brunch at the hotel restaurant only to be greeted by stares of old people and amazement at Outlaws PINK hair. Hey if old people can have blue hair why can't Outlaw have PINK I mean what's so wrong with that.
After laughing our way to the show grounds we arrived to an already packed house. Although the gates weren't open to the public until 11am,
to give the owners time to clean and set up there rides, the show grounds were packed with over 250 show quality rides. After getting settled in it was time to break out the camera and get to work. It wasn't long till the Louisiana sun was taking a toll on me and it was time to take a much needed break. After chilling in the camper it was time to head to the stage area were several bands were playing. One after the other the stage was constantly busy with everything from Mike giving away TONS of free crap to bands to a group of rappers straight from Shreveport getting the crowd pumped. When the stage wasn't packed several DJ's kept the crowd going all day. As the day wore on it was time for the Summer Streets bikini contest with gorgeous ladies strutting their stuff for over $1000.00 in cash and prizes.
It wasn't long until the show was winding down and it was time to pass out the well-deserved awards to the people that made this show so great. The participants that attended this show were awesome and there support was much appreciated.
With the awards received everyone shifted there focus to the highly anticipated after party. The plan was to head to grab a bite to eat with Outlaw and the Aftermath posse and then head to the party, but when the food hit our table and we were done there really wasn't enough energy to get us there. So Mike and myself decided to meet some friends of his and just take it easy for the evening. I never knew that shooting a one-day event like this could be so tiring. After making our way back to the hotel it was time to cash in and get a good nights sleep for the long ride back home.
After talking to Lomax for over an hour on the way home I was quickly informed that this show had outgrown it's humble one day show beginnings and come next year this will become a two day event so make sure you keep a close eye posted to there website http://www.shreveportshows.com to plan to attend the first 2 day event of the Summer Streets show.
Lomax would like to give an EXTRA special thanks to EVERYONE that helped make this show the great time it was. A special thanks goes to Steph for all her hard work and keeping things in order. Lomax also would like to thank EVERYONE that attended this year's event and looks forward to seeing everyone back next year for two solid days of non-stop fun.
