With the wrath of Hurricane’s strolling through Florida the crew from Mini Madness insisted on letting the show go on. As I arrived into Tampa Friday afternoon Scott and Lil Drunk Fella “Kenny” from RA Florida would be waiting for my by the escalators. We’d head to the hotel with a short stop to gather some hard liquer and to fill the keg on the way. As we arrived at the hotel we’d meet up with other RA members and guys from a few other clubs to begin the night off on the right foot.
Once everyone met up and checked into our rooms we’d gather to go eat some food at some up scale restaurant. In attendance would be myself, Officer Jay, John from Sport Truck, Oliver, Pops and Mark. With a few lobster tails in the belly and alcohol in the system we’d head back to the hotel for some keg beer and good laughs. The joke of the night… “How much do Pirates pay to have their ears pierced? …… A Buccaneer!” aaah yes, this would start a pirate barrage throughout the weekend.
As things died down Myself, Officer Jay, Oliver and John from Sport Truck would head down to Ebor or whatever the Ghetto is there to a Tattoo and piercing shop to get someone pierced. On our way out some dude would persist on smarting off to John and low and behold the hat came off and bobbin’ and weaving took place. Good times I tell you good times. With the blood flowin’ we’d head back to Officers Avalanche and head back to the hotel for some much needed rest.
As I arrived to the show Saturday the heat was already baring down and the humidity was climbing. I’d track down Callie and get my golf cart, grab Jay and away we went to gather coverage. Now last year we managed to get 1400 photos of both cars and trucks but this year I was lucky to get close to 400. As the day went on people seemed to be leaving soon because of the heat along with heading to the judging lane to get judged. The vehicles that we saw were nice and it seemed the over all numbers might be down but the quality stayed consistent with a ton of innovative ideas and complete custom rides.
Saturday night would start where Friday night ended with draggin’ and partying. Eventually the cops would surround the Red Roof with the ghetto bird flying overhead. Those of us that managed to get out before the crowd control took place headed to the after party where everyone would drink dance and have a good ol’ time. The Pirate theme would continue as Fester would bring a Pirate hat, eye patch and hook. Joke of the night; “What is a Pirates favorite thing to do?? …. MATE!!” haha…..
Sunday I’d get to the show a few hours earlier then Saturday and set out to finish show coverage and gather features for upcoming issues. If you missed this years Slamfest you missed out on a good time and if you’ve never been to Slamfest I suggest you put in for the time out and mark your calendar as it is a show worth attending.
Oh and one last Pirate thing established over this weekend….
(In your best pirate voice!)
