For the last thirteen years, Viva Las Vegas Rock-a-Billy weekend has been a prominent hot rod event in Las Vegas. A few years back, a club of rodders, the “Junk Yard Pirates,” decided to have an event that encompassed the vehicles that weren’t allowed into Viva. What started as a side event to Viva has stepped up to a powerful alternative to the Viva show. Last year the show was held at a local Las Vegas park, which seems like small dice compared to the bash this year at the Hard Rock Casino on April 3rd, 2010.
Open to all Pre-75 cars, it had a ton of variety. The Pirates were overwhelmed with the huge response they received and stuffed every inch of the parking lot with rods, customs, bikes, and muscle cars. With some bigger names in the hot rod industry taking part, this event turned out to have some of most creative and original rides. Ian Rousell unveiled Space Junkie at Rat City. This is one ride we will see more of in the near future. Bo Huff made rounds the show as well. With the Hard Rock Pool open to spectators, it made for an awesome contrast to the sea of asphalt and iron. Cold beer was on tap, plenty of vendors, a pinup contest, and live music made for a show that all would be interested in.
Keep your engines warm for a bigger and better Rat City Ruckus next year with more events on Friday night and Saturday.
