Beat the Heat 2000 was Nevada Counsels third annual run held at Davis Camp in Bullhead City, Arizona. The location was perfect, a campground right on the river. The best of the road and water showed up to this event. During the days, I watched people on their jet skis, speedboats, and canoes go up and down the river. Then night fell and the cruising began.
To my knowledge, this was the highest turnout they have had so far. Three hundred and fifty cars rolled in, and one hundred and fifty cars showed. I have to tell you, it was not easy to shoot one hundred and fifty cars with a camera that had an almost dead battery and no way of charging it! I managed the best I could, and I hope none of you are disappointed. This show had the most diversity of all the shows I have been to as of yet. They had the usual trucks, mini-trucks, and sport compacts. In addition to these, I also saw a jeep an A.T.V., and motorcycles, which are things that I haven’t seen at a run. They gave it an interesting twist!
The run itself had all the fun that it could have had, with the exception of two small details. One was the lack of stage. Nevada Counsel did the best they could with a DJ that played his tunes well into the night in the middle of the camp ground with people dancing all around. Unfortunately for all of you men out there, the lack of stage also meant the lack of bikini contest, and for all you women out there, there was also no boxer contest. Because of this, you will not be able to see any pictures of either naked or half-naked women or men from this run. For this, I truly am sorry. The only other downfall of this run was the gusts of wind that got up to forty miles per hour. This was fairly easy to deal with, as long as your tent was staked down and you didn’t have a fire to close to anything you cherished!
I can’t forget to mention the virgin runners. What would a run be without the virgin runners? They are by far, one of my favorite parts of runs! We had a few really good sports out there. I have to give credit to two gentlemen from Desired Visions that were being run for about three hours Saturday afternoon, I don’t know how they were still standing in the end, but they were! We had a great bunch of virgins out there, and I hope to see them all at the next run! And, because I am on the topic of giving props out, I also have to give credit to the two clubs with the best beer bongs! IV Ever Low with the beer bong that holds twenty four beers and Warped Concepts that had a two person beer bong. They both disserve a trophy for their ingenuity!
I would just like you all out there to know that this is definitely a run to make the effort to go to! The location alone was perfect! The locals love having us there, and will support us year after year. If you like to gamble, it is only a three-minute trip to go to Laughlin, Nevada, or, if you have a boat, just a trip across the river. On a final note, I would like to send my sympathy out to the gentleman that was injured on the river during the run. I wish you a successful recovery! To everyone else, I hope to see you at the next one, which will be held next spring so the weather should be terrific!
