Booger Bash
Booger Bash
Ghosts, goblins, pumpkins, custom trucks and sport compacts. What do these have in common? Mini Mania's Booger Bash 2000 on Halloween weekend. A show that many diehard custom truck and sport compact owners from the East Coast and Midwest consider the last of the season, unless you care to travel farther south. The show is held outside of Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina in a parking area used normally only when the NASCAR races are in town. This is my second year for Booger Bash and by far the bigger of the two.
Our crew rolled into Charlotte around dinner time on Friday evening after a long drive from Central Ohio, we checked into our hotel, ate a quick bite and rolled over to the show pimpin' our tow vehicle, a stock height suburban. As we got close enough to see the show area, our jaws dropped to see almost the entire area consumed by tents and show vehicles. Wow! Just from this site we know what a crazy weekend it was going to be. We got registered and then cruised the 'burb around the camping area and got lots of laughs. Little did they know what was setting back at the hotel either, my shaved, bagged, and body dropped Nissan. We found a couple of old friends that we had meet last year and hung with them for a while before we turned in for the night.
Saturday morning came quick and we knew that in order to get judged and shoot some pictures for Street Source Magazine before the dust started to fly (did I say dust, don't ask about it) we needed to be there early. After a stop off at the nearest Waffle House, we were on our way to the show. We got right in to the show, since we registered Friday night, and avoid a long waiting line to register Saturday morning. Mini Mania had chosen drive thru judging this year and the lines for both trucks and cars grew quickly. After getting judged the hardest part of the day was finding a parking spot, since many of the campers had already claimed their spots with tents, coolers, chairs, people, or any other items they could get to sit still long enough. The show was filled with lots of quality rides, tons of East Coast hotties, and vendors selling anything from the latest sport compact goodies to 20" wheel and tire packages. After hangin' with my club mates from Negative Camber for the day, we retreated back to our hotel room in late afternoon to get ready for the Saturday night happenings at Booger Bash.
After a fresh shirt and some dinner we were headed back to the show. At the beginning of the evening, the crew of Mini Mania held a costume contest for the kids and adults, bikini contest, and a pumpkin-carving contest. Then the party begins, if it hasn't already! If you have never been to Booger Bash, you could compare Saturday night to the likes of Dayton Cruisefest, Texas Heatwave and several other wild shows I have had the opportunity to attend during my 8 plus years of showing custom trucks. If you can dream it, it probably happened on Saturday night at Booger Bash.
Sunday Morning came a little early for most in the camping area, as the area was littered with bottles and cans of the campers favorite beverages. Hung-over or not, most managed to clean and pack up their campsites, prior to the awards ceremony that was started around Noon. Awards went smooth, and put a close to the fun packed weekend and the 2000 show season for most. Many of the vehicles at the show will be taken home and blown apart getting them ready for next years show season with the ideas collected this year. If you have never been to Booger Bash mark your calendar for next years wild and crazy event put on by Mini Mania.
