GirlieGab
Since Valentine's Day is this month, I thought I would tell you about some of the "MEN" in my life. Over the past several years, I've met some very ummmm.....interesting people. Most of these people are, of course, male; given the lifestyle that I am a part of. I tend to call them "the end-all, be-all of the customizing scene." Don't let it go to your head
guys!!!! They are each very unique, special people and I would like to tell you a little about them.
First, there's my hubby Russell, who, in my eyes, is the coolest minitrucker around. He's also my very best friend. He may not be top dog when it comes to certain things about customizing but he is ALWAYS willing to help wherever and whenever you ask him too.
Then there's this guy named Catfish (Eddie Scott) that is truly old school. He built a roadrunner back in the day that graced the cover of Car Craft magazine. He even has the old school ZZ top beard. I don't know if I could find a better candidate in the "nice guy" category. He owns this business called EZ's hydraulics and of course, to me, he is the hydraulics
KING. He did the setup for the black 63 Impala in the Kris Kross video for "JUMP". No matter what time of the day you call or come by, he takes the three or four or eight hours (you get the picture) to focus on you instead of brushing you off because he's busy (which he always is!). If you don't understand something that he does, he takes the time to explain and make you
understand. He is, without a doubt a walking boatload of information! Plus, whenever he sees me, he never fails to greet me with, "Hey gorgeous!"
Robert Yernest was a good friend of ours that died in 1999. There was no part under the hood of a vehicle that he didn't know what it was, how it
worked, why it was there, and how much horsepower it added if you did this or that to it. This guy was so into cars that he could literally relay information to you on any car you could think of. I swear he memorized
everything he ever read about cars and making them go faster. The thing that really made Robert special, though, was if you did something to him that was
wrong and you apologized, he believed you meant it and forgave you right then. We miss you Robert.
Next is Chad "Little Shop" Mushlitz, who is, without a doubt, the most sex starved minitrucker around. His favorite line is "Yeah, I'll take you out to dinner; IF you pay AND you wear a short skirt with no panties!" He SAYS that it works but, personally, I think its just MUSH. He also says that he's waiting on one to turn him down so he can marry her! (You girls in Idaho listening?) He also wants a pair of panties from all 50 states. (He thinks he's a pimp daddy.) If there are any takers, let me know and I'll give you his address. He is a nice guy so help him out with the panty thing.
Next is Pancake, my grits-eatin' Jersey buddy (James Shortway). He is super cool because he knows what a bitch I can be and he loves me anyway. He also lets us talk him into stuff like letting crazy people crash at his shore house. He's pretty funny to watch at shows too when the girlies start flashing their hoo-hoo's and he runs back and forth like a 12 year old virgin trucker! He is also the only person I know who will forsake comfort and crush his 200+ pound body into the jump seat in our truck to cruise Seaside
for hours.
Garrick and Kris get on my end-all, be-all list because they created the most kickass online magazine around. They picked me to write for them and they are ballsy enough to tell me when I've gone too far. Not many people will do that to me.
Lance Martz makes the list not because he's the editor of the best print mag around, but because he's one of the nicest guys I know. He's professional in his business and forever giving in his friendships. He's one of those people that no matter what is going on in his life, he still cares about what's going on in yours.
Now I have to mention my husband's dad, Lanny. He has absolutely no interest in the scene whatsoever but still tries to understand why we do what we do. He is also willing to take time off and drive hours to meet us at a show so we can visit since we live so far away from him. He's okay for a 50
something year old geezer that thinks fender flares and ground effects on trucks are cool.
I guess I could go on and on about the "men" in my life but I'll let it rest for now. My point to all of this is that each of you are unique and each of you lend your own special touch to the customizing scene. Without all of you, we wouldn't continue to thrive and grow in our lifestyle. Just keep being you!!!!
