On Saturday, August 7, the power of the Street Source forums proved itself once again. The Middle Georgia Mini Truck Cruise In was held at the Big Peach Outlet in Byron Georgia. The informal gathering was the fruit of the Street Source forum.
The sun was just setting on the hot rod car show in the outlet lot when the mini trucks started rolling in. The parking spaces normally reserved for bargain hunting housewives now read like a Who’s Who of mini truckin’ culture. Much to the chagrin of the lone outlet security guard, one end of the ample parking lot was unofficially designated for an impromptu drag-off. It’s wasn’t long before the sparks began to fly. A few fearless souls even went draggin’ by on I-75. Sounds of stereos and air bags filled the night.
Towards the end of the night, some local muscle cars showed up to impress us with their burn outs (insert eye roll here). Not too far behind were the Pep Boys rice rockets with their cars so cluelessly “tricked out” they could have been body double for The Fast and the Furious. But the numerous mini truckers left their mark – on the pavement.
A good time was had by all. Putting a face to a screen name made the drive there all worth it. Not everyone’s custom rides made it out. But as we all know, a mini trucker is still a mini trucker even if his daily driver is a stock miniVAN.
