Spring is here. For some of us, this means soaking up cancerous UV rays on the beach, spending a little extra time cruising, or perhaps just getting some quality R&R at the home-front. But for me, and fellow auto enthusiasts, a fine spring weekend is a time to pack up the necessities, pile in the friends, and embark on a not-so-well-planned road trip to a car show. The second weekend in March annually secures a spot on the calendars of southeastern auto aficionados. At this time each year, auto enthusiasts from around the country drag, tow, and drive their pride and joy to Hunter's Custom Auto Expo held in Nashville, TN. This event, housing a smorgasbord of truckers, car fiends, and street rod lovers, caters to the tastes to all involved to offer three full days of exciting show activities. My friends and I loaded up in a borrowed Infiniti and left early Saturday morning to make the trek to Nashville. As parking was limited, we were lucky to secure a space relatively close to the action. When the gates opened at 10:00, a flood of bodies spilled into the indoor confines of the civic center, everyone rushing to get a glimpse at some of the finest rides in the county. Onlookers feasted their eyes beautifully detailed hotrods, sports cars, and the lowest of lowriders. Almost becoming a theme of Hunter's, it is not surprising to see such a diverse collection of vehicles concentrated into one area. While walking past a laid S-10, you might notice a smooth six-four, an F-150 on double dubs, or maybe a ghost-flamed Vette all in the same area. Its great to see a group of such varied interests that can all come together and throw down a helluva-good time.

Dually exciting were rows of seller's booths that seemed to stretch for miles. Making sure to harass every breathing thing that walked by, these guys were happy to distribute posters, stickers, and brochures along with a wealth of information on their product. This tactic seems to be the best marketing scheme on the planet: if you want to let people know about your merchandise, reel them in with some killer schwag. Needless to say, it worked; evidenced by our pitifully deflated wallets. After walking a marathon's distance in circles, drooling over all the cars and trucks, Hunter's gave us one more thing to drool about: a bikini contest! Everyone in attendance migrated to the show stage to catch a peek, and maybe a picture, of the Texas bikini team. After several rounds of competition, the winner left with a crown and plenty of cheering from the wild fan-base. Tired and hungry enough to kill, we piled ourselves back in for the ride home, leaving one of the best indoor shows of the southeast in the rear-view mirror.Article By Eric SalibaPhoto's by Bobby Stewart
