Another cut is made a few inches in to allow us to angle the filler plate. The bed sides are cut about 2" below the rails from front to back.

Before getting the bed cut out completely, we put the same 4 scissor jacks under all corners. When cut the bed is lowered 3 1/2" to match the cab & tacked into place. Next you can see eric tacking up the rear filler piece & then moving to the front bed wall & bedsides.

After the bed is all welded up, all the welds get some more paintable undercoating. Even the underside gets a good shot of coating to prevent any chance of rust. On this truck, the bedside braces need to be lenghtend to match up with the dropped bedsides. To do this, we cut them in half & use some small 3/16" round tube to join the to pieces back together. The gas filler neck is re attached and the bed is complete.
