Hello class, Mr. Medina here to give you a little history lesson on SEMA. Now most of you may think that SEMA has only been around since 14" rims were the big craze but in fact SEMA is actually preparing to celebrate its 40th birthday. For all you Math wizards that means they set up shop back in 1963. Originally dubbed the Speed Equipment Manufacturer's Association SEMA has know many names since; with the current prize winner being the Specialty Equipment Market Association. The original founders were comprised mostly of a few manufacturers of performance products for hot rods and included B&M Racing and Performance, Falken Tires, Flex-a-lite, Primedia (formerly McMullen Publishing and Peterson Publishing), Hedman Headers, Holley Performance/NOS, Crane Cams, Grant Products, Center Line, McLeod and Moroso. It appears that the goals of the afore-mentioned alumni weren't so different from the goals of the SEMA members today. Although governmental and regulatory issues were not such a big deal back then they have impact the marketplace significantly in the years since; as all of you know. SEMA has set up shop down in good ole D of C, Washington that is, and actually fights for just causes such as emissions, ride height, noise restriction, truth, justice and the American way! Now, the alumni surely never heard of Honda or Toyota back in '63 but are hip to the fact that the Import scene is in fact the fastest growing aftermarket segment in the automotive community. All of the alumni make parts to make our import rockets run better, faster and look stellar while doing it. Oh yeah, they also help us enjoy them more too. Now, I hope you all have been taking notes because you will be tested on this at a later date. If you have any questions please see me after class or go to www.sema.org for further research.
