This two-piece kit includes the tools needed to access diagnostic trouble codes for most OBD I Asian imports, including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Acura, Lexus and Infiniti vehicles manufactured from 1983 through 1995. It also includes an easy-to-read manual with instructions and code definitions in English, French and Spanish to help quickly determine what triggered the "check engine" light to illuminate. The suggested retail price of the kit is under $30.00. In response to U.S. government mandates, manufacturers were required to include self-diagnostic programs on vehicles to identify emissions-related faults. This was accomplished with On-Board Diagnostics, which has been on most vehicles since 1981. The first generation, called OBD I, was designed to monitor various systems such as fuel injection, ignition and emissions systems, and illuminate the MIL ("Check Engine" light) if a problem is detected.
