7th Annual Nitto Custom Compact Nationals
7th Annual Nitto Custom Compact Nationals
Nitto shows are most notable for there bracket racing, and pro stock cars, and the jam packed car shows that always follow. It seemed, at the beginning of the show season for Englishtown, that this years shows where going to turn out to be a big flop. With Honda Fest not having as much as a turnout as expected, and Import Survival Series getting rained out (literally), I was hoping that the Nitto show would live up to its normally huge attendance. And that it did. Although rain was expected the show turned out to be held on a beautiful day, nice enough in fact to have Scions models out in full force along with the Bud Light girls walking around handing out blinking bottle cap pins. This was the first of the big custom compact shows to actually have a huge turnout this year. Unlike most other shows Englishtown holds a huge swap meet at every show where you can buy anything from body kits, to clutches, to even fully swappable motors. There where a lot of vendors on hand at the show including a huge Nitto Tire booth, AEM parts distributors, DUB CITY models, pocket rockets stand, and the Chevy Experience booth.
Although I did not personally watch the races that day because the show took the whole day to actually cover (even using a pocket rocket as my form of mobility) but I did happen to look up at a few pro stock cars running high 6's and low 7's. All in all the show was a big hit among the 5,000+ spectators in attendance, which isn’t a big turnout at an Englishtown show but it was big enough. One of the things that really caught my eye was 14-year paint veteran Richard Markham's (www.richardmarkham.com) booth, which featured some of the cleanest custom; painted rides I have been able to see in person. He had a Toyota Celica at the show that he painted a full side panel graphic on at the show, simply from looking at a picture and transforming it into a masterpiece on the show car. I can honestly say that is probably one of the coolest things I've experienced at a show. Well that and every person I rolled down there with taking a trophy in their class including myself and my fellow club member seemed to make the event that much better. If you watch ESPNTV you will most likely see this event because ESPN's film crews where rolling around all day filming cars and their owners talking about the work that’s gone into them. Definitely check this show out and others at Englishtown at www.racewaypark.com.
