Meltdown
Meltdown
Well guys its 5:00 Sunday afternoon, I’m sitting in my apartment drinking a tall cold one. Where the hell are you at? Most of you are just leaving Greenville, Mississippi with a 10, 15, even 24 hour drive ahead. Although it really killed me to miss Showfest I have to say I didn’t miss the 10-hour drive home or the dumb ass locals. Luckily for me and the other lost souls who didn’t make the journey to Mississippi, Johnny Perales, (JPeventsxx) had the perfect solution.
This was the second year for Meltdown, held at Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunsfauls and it drew some of the nicest rides from all over Texas. Clubs such as Relaxed Atmosphere, Negative Camber, and Severed Ties all had members in attendance. The Texas chapter of Aftermath brought out several rides along with Vertically Challenged and Vertically Kollapsed. Robert Swindell and the Xtreem Rydes crew drove up from Houston and brought some really sick rides including a 04 crew cab f-150 layed out on 26’s. For those that like your rides with some ground clearance B&C Offroad had you covered. They brought out some killer rides like their Hummer H2. Maximum Altitude also made the trip from San Antonio with their green excursion. For those of you who haven’t gotten the chance to see it in person, it is rather impressive cruising through town.
No matter what show you attend there are always two components that make a good show. 1.) Bad ass rides 2.) Something for people to do once they have finished looking at all the bad ass rides. Johnny Perales and his crew made sure that everyone was well entertained through out the weekend. Of course there was the Ski Ranch; the lake was busy all weekend with people pulling some sick tricks off the obstacles. Tuck’Em clothing had a booth set up selling some of their wicked shirts. The guys from Pure Power Performance were on hand all weekend with their mobile dyno to see if your motor measured up. Saturday night brought out the lovely ladies for a bikini contest. Sunday, Johnny scheduled the guys from USAC for a sound off. Everyone knows how mini truckers get on Sunday before awards, so the Meltdown crew provided live entertainment in the form of The Cannon Bros Band who played a few tunes to help soothe the crowd.
Then it came time for everyone’s favorite part, the trophy presentation. Billy and the guys from Southern Style Customs (SSC) were nice enough to sponsor the Best of Show Trophy which was taken home by Chris from Severed Ties with the yellow full size Chevy. They also designed the metal masterpiece that is the Under Construction trophy, which I must say was one of the most creative trophies I have seen to date. SSC also sold tickets all weekend for a chance to take home one of their bag kits, which was given away at the awards presentation.
This weekend was a blast for me. It doesn’t get any better than bad ass trucks and hanging out with friends, new and old. That’s what this sport is all about. If you find yourself sitting at home the weekend after Mothers Day next year with the Greenville blues, I would defiantly recommend a road trip to New Braunsfauls, Texas for Meltdown 2005. Johnny Perales and his crew really know how to put on a good show.
