Scrapin the Coast
Biloxi, MS every year is host to the largest Hot Rod and Oldies car show known to mankind. Cruisin the Coast has become a yearly trek for over 100,000 people from all around the world. So last year while attending Cruising the Coast two local people that were into the body draggin custom scene decided that MS Gulf Coast could use another show except it needed to be more for our lifestyle. So by putting there heads together they came up with Scrapin the Coast.
As always I left Memphis, TN MUCH later then expected because as always work takes a turn for the worst only days before a show. My customers can sense I'm going out of town and decide to play a cruel joke on me and cause me to work overtime. But even this was not enough to cause me to miss this show. As I made my way down I called a couple old friends that was once in a car and truck club with me if they were going to the show. A couple people were not even sure what I was talking about so I knew I needed to spread the word. As I began to call old friends and fellow club mates I called Shrimp Pimp one of my old friends to see if he was bringing his old body style silver Mazda to the show. With every excuse known to mankind thrown at me I finally convinced him that since he could not go his Mazda needed to so at 1:30 am I find myself in his driveway bolting seats in and doing some last minute touch ups to get the truck road worthy since it had been sitting in the same spot for 6 months. So were off to the show right, WRONG. Thru my calls I had gathered up several other people that wanted to cruise over at 4am to the hotel and crash there till morning. With a line that made me think back to when we did this every weekend we finally arrived in Gulfport, MS. Me and Zach decided that we were wide-awake so we took his bad to the bone S-10 to the local car wash to knock 6 months of not driving it either crud off of it. What is up with people having sweet trucks and not driving them, but anyway no big deal the old crew was together again.
Saturday morning was finally upon us WAY to soon and it was time to hit the show. As we arrived at the Sports Complex were the show was being held we were greeted by allot of old and new faces. Every which way I turned someone that I had not seen in years was there that wanted to talk and catch up on old times. As the day pressed on the rain decided to break loose and cause everyone to run for shelter.
Now I know that to most people rain at a show pretty much causes the show grounds to empty and causes the show to shut down, but not these die-hard goers. With a trip to Home Depot for a roll of 10x20 plastic and a couple bottles of soap we were headed back to the grounds for some fun in the rain. After nearly breaking my hand from one to many passes on the homemade slip and slide it was time to head to the Hotel to clean up and get dry. As I arrived back the sun was peaking its head out and it was starting to clear up. I knew that it was time to get to work taking show shots of the gathering of ultra clean rides onhand.
As darkness fell the promoters had scheduled a Poker Run and Cruise on the beachfront. Now for those that have never heard of a poker run, it is were there are 5 stops you have to make along a planned route. At each stop you receive a playing card, you pick up one card at each stop. Once you have been to each location and received your card you then head to the final location were the best hand wins. By the way the promoters gave away some serious prizes. After about 4 hours of watching people drag and have fun it was time to head to the hotel for some much needed sleep, or at least that was the plan. When Zach and me arrived back at the hotel the Florida EC crew was getting off a charter Bus they had hired to take them to the buffet at Grand Casino. Now we all know EC members can pack away some food but Buffet. So it wasn't long till the beer was flowing and story after story was being told. The highlight of the night once again involves Jimmy from the FL chapter of EC, to bust out his room wearing a Scottish KILT, and as I've been told by Chrissy (BadDurangoGirlEC) there was NOTHING on under the KILT. Yes we know it looks like a dress. Now Jimmy already sports a Mohawk and nipple rings so the KILT just added to the already crazy look Jimmy posses. The cops at the store really loved Jimmy when he walked across to get more Beer. I think they were scared of him, can't much blame em. With exhaustion beating me down it was time to crash.
Sunday morning was wonderful the sun was out and the once dark skies of Saturday were gone. As we arrived at the show grounds Justin Cross from Mini Truckin and myself rounded up several rides that needed some time in front of our cameras. As we made our way to a place overlooking the Gulf of Mexico I began to think of how much this show renewed my love for shows.
