You ever went to a first year show and had such a great time that all year long you looked forward to that show coming around again to see if it would be just as much fun the following year. Well for me Scrapin the Coast was that show. Last year this show was one of my favorite shows. Last year if you were to ask me to put my finger on a specific detail that made it my favorite show, I probably couldn’t have. But once again this show is one of my favorites for a second year in a row. With owning a shop I never get to leave on time. It never fails that something keeps us from leaving in a timely manner and well STC was no different to be honest. We rolled out of Jackson headed to Biloxi beaches around 1am and completely exhausted. After fighting the sleep we finally arrived at the host hotel with my boy Kurt and his girl Courtney greeting us at the Hotel lobby wondering were we got lost along the way. LOL. Shortly after that FishStick and Derrick were in the lobby also to give us a hard time about our arrival time. With Sat morning closing in fast we decided it was time to get some shuteye. As Sat morning arrived we were awaken to Jon Leech beating on the door telling us to get up. Now Jon is my boy but he DAMN sure isn’t a pretty sight to wake up to in the AM. After farting around the hotel room it wasn’t long till some unwanted rain decided to send everyone running for cover. Being the smart people that we are we decided a trip to the local Sports Pub was in order to grab some food before hitting the show. It wasn’t long until Fish, Derrick, Kurt, Courtney, Phatty, Jon, McKae, Brandon Leblanc and myself were saying what show, we need another round of beers please to our waitress. You honestly didn’t expect us to go back out into that rain did you. I didn’t think so! After a 3-hour meal and a few beers later we were off to the hotel to meet the masses of people that had disembarked the show grounds, which were just next-door, for some high ground. As we arrived we were greeted by Bubba Fells and 2 of his illegitimate kids Davie and Justin in their lovely Bubba’s Kid apparel. With the masses growing and the beer flowing it wasn’t long until the fun started. From Phatty taking Fish’s dads Brand new F250 4x4 and backing over bushes and playing stupid to the cops, from Techy pole dancing and dry humping everyone that would stand still (o and Techy we love the socks and shorts ensemble that’s damn near sexy), to Fish getting the SHIT slapped out of him by everyone from Phatty and then paying Jenni and Jason Millers kids to slap him the night was priceless. I think that kid made a small grip off of Fish’s drunk ass that night.

Soon the crowd had made its way from Hotel parking lot to the beach were somehow I ended up playing crossing guard for everyone that decided to cross the 4 lanes of traffic. Mama always told me to go play in traffic what can I say. It wasn’t long until the Assorted crew along with the NC crew and myself were all headed to a country bar inside one of the casino’s. Now for those that can’t picture this (you need glasses if you can’t) Rednecks and Mini Truckers go together like Oil and Water. But we somehow managed to get out of the Honky Tonk without shiny bracelets and blue light flashing everywhere, although it was close at one point and time. It wasn’t long till the 12 of us were giving the waitress at Ihop pure hell. That poor woman wanted to kill all of us I assure you. Back at the hotel it was quickly bedtime as the thought of shooting the show weighted heavily on my brain. Sunday was simply awesome. Weather was still slightly cloudy but just a nice day. As we made our rounds we discovered some new rides we had never seen before and then stumbled upon a Mini Truckin Legend one of the most famous mini trucks ever “Last Look”. For those that might be to young or just to new to the scene, you missed out on a truck truly ahead of its time. Once the show was covered for the SSM masses we asked the new owner of Last Look if he would allow us to shoot it for SSM. With a quick nod of his head we were off to a remote location on the Coliseum grounds to ensure that SSM readers would get the same privilege as us old timers did back in December of 1996 when it graced the cover of Mini Truckin Magazine. As we finished up we quickly gathered our gear and headed to the stage area for the much deserved awards presentation. After a few good byes it was time to hit the road for the long drive home. As I sat in the back seat I began to think about how much of a great time I had at this show and the opportunity to shoot a MT legend like Last Look that has meant allot to me in what I love about this scene over the years. But it wasn’t the rides that made this show great. It was the friends that made this show awesome. Not just friends but I guess you might be able to say people that are more like family. That’s what makes this show awesome. By Ben HusserO and word of caution NEVER give Jon Leach the keys to someone’s ride to hold till they sober up……. Jon loves to disappear with them ….. Isn’t that right FISH ?????
