Scrapin' The Coast
With the devastation that Katrina left behind the Gulf shores where rattled and left with nothing but rubble and low moral. With each passing month people search for what was precious to them and begin a new life else where or plans to rebuild. Well for the crew throwing Scrapin’ the Coast this was no different. With the grounds once filled with sand, debris and a coliseum needing a rebuild the determination was to have the show continue with nothing in the way. With the rebuild or completion of each hotel being brought back to working order the outlook for STC became more and more of a reality.
For most coming to STC was a chance to give to a community needing money and to a show worth helping stay alive. With the gates opening Saturday morning the crew where welcoming a swarm of rides from all over the south. As rides entered the show grounds through out the weekend the show quality and numbers where brought close to last years event. Upon my arrival to the grounds I was left with plenty to shoot, friends to see and heat to endure. As last year there was a lot of quality to look over at this year’s event and plenty to do whether it was listening to the entertainment, hanging with friends, searching for fluids or whatever else tickled your fancy. Lots of people also took in the sites of what Katrina left behind.
As the show wound down Justin and myself would head out to do features, shower up and then head to the track where people would be partying and waiting for the night festivities to take place. With the arrival of the girls participating in this years bikini contest it was strongly put across to the girls that nudity this year would get you out of the contest as the grounds had a little more strong hold this year round. So with the contest on its way and the crowd enjoying the contest it was time to head to the hotel to watch some dragging, do a little drinking and then hit the room for some much needed R and R.
I’m glad I was able to attend this year’s show and I’ll be looking forward to going to next year’s event. And if you didn’t attend this year’s event then shame on you! J
