Lowdown Showdown
Well it all started for me when I knew I had to take my son to Little Rock after his summer vacation in Tennessee. Scott from Kontradictions said it would be cool for me to meet him in Little Rock and ride with their crew to the show, so I gladly accepted. I knew it was going to be a good time; I just wasn't exactly sure how good of a time it would be.
Wednesday I started my journey by heading to Memphis and staying overnight with my aunt and uncle. After chillin' with my boy Jerry Lewis I got up the next day and headed to Little Rock. Once in Little Rock, I put my son on the plane and called Scott to meet up at the McCain Mall. Scott and his crew from Kontradictions showed me the finer things of Little Rock I never thought I would see, including custom shops in the deep woods and tractor trailers full of chickens. Needless to say, I won't forget it! By the way, how can that thing weight 14 pounds?
When Friday rolled around, it was time to load up and get on the road to Oklahoma. We all met up and headed down I40 for the five-hour trek. After stopping at McDonalds, eating, and picking up a few more people, we got back on the road to complete the journey.
Once we got into Oklahoma City, we had to pull over and let some of the crew catch up with us. Little did I know, we were parked about two miles from the hotel that the crew from Lower Level had put the SSM crew in for the weekend. Becca and Kevin from Pleasures, and Mark from Gravity Permits drove like a bat out of hell (we call her Becca Andretti) to pick me up. We met back at the hotel and hooked up with the limo that Lower Level rented to pick-up Garrick at the airport, and take us out for the evening. Garrick had already been drinking…Big surprise there! So we all loaded up in the limo and headed to downtown Oklahoma City.
After arriving at our destination, Main Street, we all unloaded and went inside. Inside, almost the entire Pleasures crew was already in full party mode, so Brent made sure Garrick and I were in party mode too. With that said, I promptly had a beer in each hand, as did Garrick, along with his Flaming Dr Peppers.
Ok, I have to take time to talk about Flaming Dr Peppers for a second. While Flaming Dr Peppers hold some redeeming values for those who have nothing better to do the following day, they don't do well for SSM Editors who are expected to perform the next day.
With that said, Brent made sure Garrick had plenty of Flaming Dr Peppers that evening (5 in total). We partied all night with our Lower Level buddies and Pleasures friends, as Brent and Kevin Blackshere made sure Garrick and I were happy alcohol wise. And boy, were we! A few hours and much alcohol later, the crew from Lower Level loaded us back into the limo and attempted to head back to the hotel. I say attempt cause we didn't get far. Garrick's stomach had other plans and the door of the limo opened as he unleashed the wrath of Flaming Dr Peppers and beer from the evening. Scott from Lower Level had seen enough and opened the other door and unleashed his own stinky fury on the sidewalks of downtown Oklahoma City. Jeff from Lower Level promised himself repeatedly "I didn't see that.. I didn't see that" It was a sight for sure!
After our longer than normal limo ride back to the hotel (Garrick decided he needed to rid his body of more alcohol along the way) and a looooong journey from the limo to the hotel room, we finally got settled down for the night. Whew!
Early the next morning, there was a loud bang at the door as a couple of Lower Level members came by to take Garrick to the airport to pick up his lost bag and then take us to the show. Garrick unfortunately couldn't get out of the bed, so Cass took me to the show.
After arriving at the show, I started walking around and checking out the tons of quality rides already rolling in and parking for the weekend. Bill Carlton's dually from Ekstensive in Houston was on hand, with wild man Mitch behind the wheel. Mitch also brought several and //NC\\ buddies with him to help add quality to the show. Pleasures were also on hand turning heads with their fleet of bad ass rides. The crew from Explicit Concepts made the journey and set up their "Park and Poke" trailer park, complete with tiki lamps and plastic flamingos. Rumor has it, EC saw a nice polished aluminum "bullet" style trailer on the way to the show and almost jacked it for the weekend. Their kind hearts got the best of them though and they settled for a hotel instead. Of course in true EC fashion, a hotel wasn't going to stop the fun. EC promptly went to work imitating "Jackass" and got booted from their hotel room at 3am the night before. Not stopping this mad crew, they were on hand all weekend partying and having a good time.
