DropZone '05
Year after year DropZone is one of my favorite shows to attend and one that I look forward to more then most. As we began our journey west the trip started out bad before it got better, ripping my roll pan on the Wagon coming out on a gas station. Oh well, I’m surprised that its even attached with all of the dragging that’s been done. After our 7+ hour journey we’d arrive and to much of my surprise the camp grounds where already swarming with people and rides. We’d see who was out and about before heading to the hotel for the night.
As Friday arrived we’d hit up the show grounds and check out Hot Rod Betty’s and see what tattooing was going on. With a packed schedule and many already getting tipsy Jason and I would hit the car wash so we could get back to the grounds and get our drink on. As the day went on more and more people arrived along with more alcohol disappearing. Mike from MT would get us some sokie which we’d kill off quickly along with pounding plenty of beer and captain n coke. As night fell the party was in full force and a local Boise band, Keeping Secrets would set up by the camp grounds and play a few sets. As the night began to calm down and people were passing out we’d call it a night and get ready for the show the next morning.
With Saturday comes an early wake up call, but unfortunately for me 5am come quickly with a pounding headache. So fighting the after affect of Friday night we’d manage to make it to the show grounds and set up the booth and begin walking the show gathering coverage. There were tons of high quality rides at this year’s event and attendance for the show entries was a lot higher then the years passed. Also in attendance this year was a crew from ESPN 2 doing a show which will air in November sometime. As the show wound down I’d get with Devin to do a few features before heading to the hotel to get cleaned up, get a bite to eat and then back to the show grounds.
As night fell it would be time for the party to get going. With the burn out contest smoking things out and with tire after tire blown people moved into the center to prepare for the all too famous bikini/nude contest. This year there would be a few more naked bodies running around on stage compared to last years events making things even more exciting for those in attendance. With the contest over, the dragging would begin. Dragging would go on for a few hours into the late night. As passing out began to be an option for most, we’d head out to get some sleep for our journey home the next day.
With as big as DropZone was this past year I was glad to hear that there was no big drama associated with a big event and everyone seemed to have a killer time. I can’t wait until next years event where I’m sure it will be just as good if not better!
