WHAT MAKES A CAR/TRUCK CLUB

BY CURTUS KNOBLE

When you think of custom cars, you also think of clubs. But what is a car club? What is it that makes the perfect club? Is it a bunch of bad ass rides? How about a large group? Well in my opinion it is niether of the choices above. The back bone of a good club is its members. Anyone can go out and spend money or put in the time to build a head turning ride. But once the ride is built what is left for the person to contribute to the club. A club is a secondary family, the people you would do anything for, drop everything to help out in a second. Dont get me wrong, if a club doesnt have some phat rides then they arent goin to be noticed. But do you want to be noticed for a bunch of bad rides and attitudes that no one wants to be around? Or do you want to be that club people knows they can call on when they have a problem, that they can pull up to and just hang out to have a good time. When you are building your ride take a look around, see those people sittin there dirty in your garage from helping you to fix your ride all day? That is your club, that is who will be there for you. When you are on your way to a show in another state and your ride breaks down, look at who is on the side of the road with you trying to fix the car so you can all get to the show and party. That is what a club does for eachother, no matter what happens they are there for each other. Once you have established who it is that you can trust with anything, and you are proud to call your family, then you got to decide how your club will act. There is a set of unwritten laws that most clubs know about, yet some clubs seem to ignore. Car clubs are just as they sound, a club, not a gang. By going around talking about other clubs and trying to intimidate other people is not what a club is about. Just because you have a different logo on your back window than someone else, does not mean you are any better or an enemy to that person. A logo is simply a mascot for the group of people in the bigger scene of custom cars that you represent. When you see another club go by you, or pull up next to you, it should be like seeing a cousin, or even a brother. You both have a common love and goal. Each of you have spent hours working to build a ride that represents you to the world. And this spans far beyond the boundries of your type of car. Mini-trucks, Imports, Lowriders and Hot Rods are all part of the same lifestyle. Next time you see a different style car driving down the road, dont start raggin on it. Instead step back and look at the work the person put into it. Even though the ride is not a style you like or anything you would ever build, there is a certain appreciation of the work that was put into the ride. If you look around you will notice how each scene can influence another. Styles and trends are taken from one type of car and used on another until you build the ride that you feel is perfect to represent you when hanging at a show or cruising the strip. So on that note, just remember we are all in the sport for the same reasons, and should appreciate eachother and the work going into each of our rides. Until next time keep draggin.
