Import shows are gaining popularity daily due to the growing demand of the import scene and the manufactures of the products that fuel the owner's desires to build them. Import Invasion hosted by Hyper Productions is one of those success story shows. The team at Hyper wanted the perfect venue in the Bayou state to host an event of this proportion so they decided the Baton Rouge Riverside Centroplex was the place to be. I left Memphis late as always. I mean I never leave on time. But this was one of those times I could get away with it because the show I was going to shoot didn't keep bankers hours and I was glad. The show was going to be held from 2pm till 10pm. Wait you mean to tell me someone decided to have a show around the times I'm most coherent in my day. Yeah, exactly. So like I was saying I was running late. I mean just because it is a 6-hour drive from Memphis to Baton Rouge didn't mean I had to be there right at 2pm anyway. So what if I left Memphis at Noon and had to drive 90+ the entire trip. Making a 6-hour drive turn into a 4½ hour drive. I'm just glad that for some unknown reason every cop in Mississippi decided to call in sick that day because I didn't see one single cop the entire trip. Which was fine by me. I arrived at the Centroplex and found my way thru the back door thanks to a friendly security guard. Once inside I sat out on a mission to find Chad and Tony the actual show promoters and owners of Hyper Productions. Finding these two was like finding a mini truck in an import show (which I did). Well I finally found them sitting in an office eating ice cream and drinking a cold one. No not really these two looked whooped BAD. These guys had been working their asses off and it showed because they looked beat. I received my credentials and I was off. Once inside the show floor I had to do what I was there to do and that was cover the event. There were kick ass imports everywhere. I quickly found my way over to a 3 door Civic hatchback with Lambo doors and not one single detail left undone. It even made this mini trucker say "DAMN". I was there for a couple minutes till I was introduced to the owner of this prestigious ride. We got to talk and that's when I was informed he was from Jacksonville, FL, no big deal right, but what came next even surprised me.

IT WAS A DAILY DRIVER and he had DRIVEN it from JACKSONVILLE to BATON ROUGE. What the @#$%. Yeah that's what I said too. No trailer queen here. Once I had removed my jaw of the cold ass concrete it was time to give the other 90 entries their camera respects too. After making my way around snapping all the pixs I could I made my way to the stage were the American Arm Wrestling Association was hosting a main event in conjunction with Import Invasion. Shortly after the big boys got done with the arm wrestling, that's when it was time for the battle of the DJ's were 3 bad ass DJ's laid down some bad ass beats. Some of LA's badest bboys battled it out in the bboy challenge. Hey and for those that didn't really want to get off the couch and come to the show to begin with, that was cool too because there was a nice couch and a big screen set up with a PlayStation 2 hooked up so everyone had a chance to kick each other's ass in a game or two. Dude I've been going to mini truck and truck shows all my life and one thing import shows kick trucks shows in the ass is when it comes to fine ass woman. Man there everywhere at import shows. I'm not sure why most girls love to come to an import show but hate and I mean hate coming to a truck show. What's up with that garbage? But hey as long as this mini trucker is forced to cover import shows all I can say is "Bring em On Sister". I had a hard time keeping my mind on what I was there to do. But after it was all over the fun had just began. Hyper Productions had set up an agreement with Nightlife the local club spot to be at in Baton Rouge that if you had entered the show you got into the club for free. LET'S GET IT ON. Nightlife was the place to be Sat night with gorgeous ladies everywhere. Well after I made it back to my hotel and got some shuteye it was off to the 6 hours of drive time to get back to the land of Elvis. Thank yeah, Thank yeah very much. So until next time I get the chance to jump ranks from the Truckin' side of the SSM house and cover another import show yall take it easy and make sure you check out Hyper Productions web site because they are hosing Import Invasions all over this year and I know your not going to want to miss one of there awesome shows. June 28th they will be coming to Jacksonville, Fl so don't miss it. http://www.importinvasion.net/Photo and text by: Ben HusserSSM: Laynbdy
